1. Call to Order: Meeting called to order at
2. Minutes: Review of minutes from last meeting
The motion was made by Ms. Bennett to approve the minutes as written, Ms.
Wilkins seconded the motion, all were in favor. The minutes were approved.
3. Principal’s report:
Ms. West: Thanked everyone for attending.
· “8 Step Process”- Curriculum procedure based on 8 components.
o Basis of model: A collaboration of teaches using guidelines for instruction that are based from student assessment and SOL to determine instruction. Focus groups are formed.
o Made a calendar for each core subject so teachers and students know what instruction will be.
o Students are tested at the end of each unit: if skills are mastered, students move on, others will have instruction again.
o Collaboration among grade level teachers.
Ms. West and Mr. Provencio meet with teachers to follow and help with instruction.
Ms. West monitors how this change is working.
Questions:
- Are all staff trained? Yes
- Are Focus Groups in the same grade level? Yes
-Is the focus only on math and reading? Yes, but other subjects are
integrated.
· Classroom observation
o Everyone is welcome to observe any class, please schedule time with Ms. West or Mr. Provencio.
o Scheduling allows for observing quality instruction in the area that you are interested in seeing.
o This does not include volunteering in the classroom, but volunteering needs to be set up with individual teachers.
4. Parent/Member Time:
· AM drop off: Ms. West noticed children being dropped off on both sides of the street.
o Procedures
need to be fine-tuned. Cars will stay on
the right side of the street. Children
should not be dropped of prior to
· Lunch: The third-graders are not getting enough time to eat lunch.
o Ms. West stated the lateness is due to teachers arriving late and those in the front of the line taking time to make their choices. This issue will continue to be worked on.
5. Treasurer Report:
Julie Chatman:
· $3,931.61 in the PTA funds.
· Tax-exempt paperwork is still in progress.
· Passed out School Budget information, this is not a final budget.
o Discussed that the final budget allocation is based on the number of students.
o Ms. West stated the McAuliffe school year budget was not final, as yet.
· Presented Treasury Rules for discussion.
o Ms. Bennett moved to shelve the vote for the Treasury Rules until there can be further discussion, Mr. Provencio seconded the motion, all were in favor.
· Ms. West stated that the budget will be finalized in the next week and will be clarified with the PTA.
6. Committee Reports:
a. Membership: Ms. Kimbel: 77 members
b. Fundraising: Ms. Humphreys:
- Power cards: Were not well received. Only 150 cards have been sold, for a
profit of $601. 92.
Volunteers were asked to sell cards at Giant, etc.
Another fundraiser is needed, all agreed on Cherrydale.
- Family night at McDonald’s generated $275.00
- The fundraising committee will be meeting to discuss fundraising goals. Ms. West stated the executive board will meet to discuss the budget and PTA funds.
c. Evening Programs: Ms. Wilkins:
- Family Fun Night will be October 26th
Tickets for each game station, food and cakewalk
d. Student Programs: vacant
e. Teacher Representative: Ms. Kimbel

g. Yearbook: New Chairperson - Lynette Johnson

The board will be worked on the first of the month.

Children will shop with 5th graders and other adults.
