CHECK LIST FOR A GREAT SCIENCE PROJECT

ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS AS YOU DO YOUR PROJECT:

    1. Am I doing an investigation (gathering information and data to answer a question)?
    2. Have I included a title, purpose, hypothesis, procedure, results, and conclusion?
    3. Is my question clearly (and scientifically and somewhat creatively) stated in my title?
    4. Does my experiment have a control?
    5. Do I know what variables were a part of my experimental design?
    6. Can I explain the independent (constant) and dependent (manipulated) variables in my project?
    7. Have I explained my procedure so that someone else could duplicate my investigation?
    8. Have I gathered results from several trials of my experiment?
    9. Are there alternative approaches for doing this investigation?
    10. Do I have sufficient data?
    11. Have I analyzed my data statistically?
    12. Have I organized my data in easy-to-read graphs, tables, or charts that show relationships, connections, and patterns in the results?
    13. Have I considered consulting a mentor scientist or professional or visiting a laboratory or business where actual research on my topic might be conducted?
    14. Have I accessed information from various sources (media center, internet) and included this information with references as backgroun in my project?
    15. Is m display neat and easy to read and understand?
    16. Are the section on my display board logically organized?
    17. Have I included color and graphics and enhanced my display?
    18. Have I used photographs, diagrams, and/or visual displays that help explain my methods?
    19. Have I included captions that explain the photographs and diagrams on my display?
    20. Is my conclusion based on the results of my experiment?
    21. Did I include a statement about my hypothesis in my conclusion?  (Did I support or reject my hypothesis in my conclusion?)
    22. Does my conclusion state how someone else could use my results?
    23. Did I include a listing of materials used in describing my procedure?
    24. Are my spelling and grammar accurate?
    25. Can I explain my investigation thoroughly to someone else?
    26. Have I practiced presenting my project to an adult?
    27. Has someknowledgeable about my topic quizzed me on my project?
