Porter will be
holding our own Specialty Programs information night on
November 25, 2008 at 6:30 p.m. We will have former
Porter students come back and tell us about their high
school experience. Look for more information soon!
Prince William
County Specialty Programs
PWCS offers career
and technical education programs, Junior Reserve Officer
Training Corps (JROTC) opportunities, the Cambridge
Programme, and the International Baccalaureate Programme.
Specialty programs include biotechnology, fine and
performing arts, international studies and languages,
information technology, and environmental and natural
sciences.
Parents and students interested in
learning more about high school specialty programs can
attend one of the information night presentations
scheduled in November, December, 2008 and January 2009.

****Important Dates Coming Up****
Woodbridge High School Center for Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA)
Information Nights:
The
Center for the Fine and Performing Arts (CFPA) program at
Woodbridge Senior High School will hold an information night
for interested students and their parents on Thursday,
November 13 at 7:30 PM in the school auditorium. The CFPA
staff will present an overview of the program and explain
the audition process. As a part of the Prince William County
Schools specialty programs, any current 8th or 9th
grader who resides in Prince William County may apply to
attend Woodbridge High School as a participant in CFPA. The
application process includes an audition and the submission
of a portfolio of works, teacher recommendations, and grade
transcripts. Students who would like to pursue a more
in-depth study in the areas of creative writing, dance,
vocal music, instrumental music, music technology, theater,
or visual arts are encouraged to apply. The
deadline to submit an application is January 15, 2009.
Application packets will be available at the information

Classroom Guidance
The
role of the school counselor is to promote
academic/educational development, personal/social
development, and career awareness. Throughout
the school year, classroom guidance lessons will be
conducted in every classroom according to these three
domains. The objectives of the lessons are based
on the curriculum established by Prince William County
Schools.

Small Counseling Groups
A variety of groups
will be offered based on the needs of the student
population. Group counseling is available to all
students and may be requested by students, parents, or
teachers. Parental permission is required.
Individual
Counseling
Individual counseling is available to all students at the
request of students, parents, and teachers.
Parental permission is required.
