Homework
The
purpose of homework is to provide out-of-class activities
or projects which enrich, enhance, and/or extend the
instructional program.
Guidelines:
-
Homework, when assigned, will be incorporated as a
meaningful component of the instructional program.
-
Homework assignments will be based on the teacher's
assessment of the student's abilities and instructional
needs. Teachers will use discretion in assigning
homework so that it may be completed in a reasonable
amount of time.
-
The
weighting of homework in determining grades will be
communicated to the students and parents.
-
Homework will be evaluated and returned.
-
At the
elementary level, failure to submit homework will result
in a "0" in the grade book as an indicator of effort each
time a pupil does not submit homework or refuses to do
written classwork. The "0" will be averaged as an
"F" at the end of the grading period as part of the
academic grade.
-
Students enrolled in advanced classes should anticipate
extended homework time requirements due to the rigorous
demands of these classes.
-
Major
homework assignments, to the extent possible, should be
coordinated between teachers and departments to avoid
undue time requirements on students.
-
Suggested time allotments for homework are as follows:

Interims will be sent home at mid-term to give parents an early
evaluation of their child's progress. Report cards will be sent home every
nine weeks.
