The counselors at Potomac View Elementary are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement. In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians, and the community, school counselors facilitate the support system to ensure all students have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society. Through individual counseling and small groups, counselors assist students with any problems they encounter that may inhibit their learning experiences. Classroom guidance lessons are also conducted to help students acquire skills essential to their future success. These skills include self-understanding, coping, decision making, goal-setting, communicating and cooperating with others. To verify understanding of lessons, counselors utilize data based surveys to assist with program development and evaluation. Should you have any questions or concerns about the Elementary Counseling Program, or if your child is having problems that may hinder their academic progress, please feel free to contact me at 703-491-1126. Self-referral forms are also available for students outside the guidance office and through their classroom teachers. Ms. Masino’s office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:40 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. I look forward to assisting the student body throughout their academic endeavors at Potomac View Elementary.
