POTOMAC VIEW PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWSLETTER

The Potomac View staff would like to WELCOME our new P.E. Teacher.

   Hi,

My name is James Stewart and I will be the Physical Education teacher at Potomac View this year. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education.

This will be my first year teaching and I'm extremely excited to begin the school year with the wonderful staff and students of Potomac View Elem school.

Be sure to check back in periodically for future announcement .

Please exercise with your child to endure a healthy lifestyle for all !!!

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

Students are expected to come prepared on their P.E. day wearing "safe" shoes and play clothes. ("SAFE" SHOES- Rubber soles, no heel, covering entire foot, and secure fit.) Play clothes are important so students can easily participate in all the activities without getting their nice clothes dirty. P.E. class is held outside or in the cafeteria and students are expected to sit during listening time.

These are the rules students are expected to follow while in p.e. class:

1) Respect the teacher and classmates at all times.

2) Try your best at all times.

3) Participate in a safe manner.

GRADING

Students will receive an "S" for steady growth or an "N" for needs support under the Physical education category on their report card. The students are graded in the following 3 areas:

1) Cooperation

2) Participation

3) Effort

If your child is having difficulty in any of these areas you will receive notice by way of a note, phone call or it will be marked on their interim.

If your child is unable to participate for any reason please send a note or doctor’s excuse with your child before or on their P.E.  day.

The upper grade students (3rd – 5th) also have the opportunity to receive an "S+" for outstanding progress. A student will receive an "S+" if they always give their best effort, always participate, and I never have to speak to them about their behavior.
