Message from Mr. Buchheit
June 2005
Hello Panthers!
It is with mixed emotions that I write our last Panther Pen letter for the 2004-2005 school year. It truly has
been an Awesome year and I am proud of how hard our students have worked and for their good behavior during the
school year. Each day, they have demonstrated their Panther Pride and made a Positive Difference at school. I am
happy to see our students progress but sad to see the year end. This year is also bittersweet, since so many of
our students will be leaving Bristow Run to begin a new adventure at Glenkirk ES. I know they will have a wonderful
experience as will any of our students who are leaving to go to other schools next year. We will miss them all.
To the parents of the students leaving I want to let you know what a pleasure it has been to get to know you and
work with you and your children. For the students and parents who are staying here next year, I want to ensure
you that we will have another excellent year and we are looking forward to welcoming a new neighborhood, Tartan
Hills, to our school.
I want to thank our OUTSTANDING teachers and staff for all their hard work, dedication and effort that they put
in to ensure the success of their students. We have the best staff around. I am honored to be working with them
all. Each year, I learn something new from each teacher and staff member that makes me a better educator and person.
This year we say good bye to Mrs. Wehner and Mrs. O'Neil who are both retiring from Prince William County after
many years of service. We also are saying good bye to Ms. Wilson, Ms. Petruska, Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Grimes and Ms.
Quinn who are all moving to other states and cities with their families. We wish them a lot of luck. Mrs. Kasky
is also moving to a new school next year to begin a new position as a reading teacher and we wish her well. Finally,
Mrs. Lee is taking time off to raise her family. Hopefully, with Mrs. Lee living so close by, we will get a chance
to still see her next year.
I also want to thank our parents for all their support at home and as volunteers at school. We could not do it
without you. You help us live our motto: "A Team on Track for the Future" everyday. We have had an amazing
PTA this school year once again. Special Thanks must be given to Mrs. Gay, our PTA president and Mrs. Harvey, our
PTA vice-president for all that they have done to make this one of the best years ever. We will miss them and are
all very appreciative of all they, the PTA board and all our wonderful volunteers have done this year. I know our
next year's board is excited about the 2005-2006 school year and I know they will also do an Awesome Job. Finally,
I just have to thank our students for being the best students in the county. They make our school the Awesome place
it is.
I hope everyone has a fun, relaxing and enriching summer vacation. We look forward to seeing many of you back again
next year on Tuesday, September 6 for the first day of school. We will send out placement letters in August. For
3rd-5th graders, your SOL scores will be sent home in the mail over the summer. We will have our annual open house
on Friday, September 2nd. That is a great time to come in, meet your teachers and bring your supplies to class.
Please encourage your students to read, read and read during the summer. I recommend checking out the Summer Quest
program at the public library. Also keep an eye of the optional summer reading list that each grade level is sending
home. It is a good way to earn some extra credit for the new school year. Each Wednesday, over summer vacation,
we will open our school library from 9 am-11am so that students can check out books. Please stop by every Wednesday.
(Closed July 6)
Thank you for entrusting your students to us this year. Please have a safe and fun summer.
