On the evening of May 22, 2008, Beville Middle School held its annual 6th grade orientation. Traditionally, Beville offered separate orientations for both new International Baccalaureate Program students and rising 6th graders.  This year, though, Guidance Director, Jane Houser and IB Coordinator, Suzanne Johnson, decided to try something different by holding each gathering on the same night and changing the format. In the new arrangement, instead of administration and faculty helping new parents and students around the building, current Beville students were charged with “orienting” new students and parents.

The student led hour-long presentation, began with a detailed explanation of the I.B. program and then continued with what Beville has to offer to the students.  Parents and rising 6th graders were entertained by the 8th Grade Choir, led by Ms. Millie Hollis, and string and band presentations conducted by music teachers, Ms. Krucelyak and Mr. Toro.

The “Imperials” Step Team performed their first place winning routine, which drew an enthusiastic applause from the audience. In addition, Beville Students Ayesha Zaphar, Saima Khan, Mahreen Azam, Joe Whitfield and Ayana Gardner, spoke of their experiences while participating in various programs uniquely offered at Beville. The drama club, speaking in English, French and Spanish, offered some words of wisdom for rising 6th graders such as: “Don't forget your combination to your locker”, “Your agenda is your new best friend” and “Always be on time to class.”   The wonderful evening ended, with current students leading small group tours of the building and answering numerous questions.

The administration and the faculty are excited to see the level of interest parents have in the education of their children. Our students have so much to accomplish at Beville Middle School throughout the years.  As a united force, we look forward to everyone’s continued involvement in school activities as students participate in endless volunteer possibilities.  At Beville, by setting high standards for our students we know that they will soar to new heights!
