ABOUT BENTON MIDDLE SCHOOL

Benton Middle School Building

Benton Middle School was named for Louise A. Benton.  Never married, she adopted two teenage girls and raised a grandson.  In 1960, Mrs.Benton moved to Prince William County from Washington, D.C.  Her home was located near the current Benton Middle School site.

Louise A. Benton Mrs. Benton worked at the Partidge School, a school for the disabled, and took in foster children.

She was recognized for her outstanding work with troubled youth in Prince William County as a recipient of the “Diana” award.

COMMUNITIES SERVED

Benton Middle School serves the elementary feeder school communities of Ashland, Coles, Marshall, Pattie, and Signal Hill.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS

Benton teacher and students

Benton Middle School houses students in grades 6 – 8, including a variety of special education programs.  Students in the Career and Technology classes have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of occupations using a mixture of lab and technology-based instructional programs.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & SPORTS

Benton Middle School is the home of a Deaf Awareness Club.  Deaf and hearing students meet on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month to bridge the gap between the deaf and hearing worlds.  Club members learn to sign and explore various aspects of deaf culture.

In addition, students can participate in a variety of extracurricular sports, clubs and activities offered throughout the school year.

OPPORTUNTIES FOR PARENT & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

PE students Benton is blessed with a very active PTA which helps provide monies, volunteer time and support to enhance numerous school programs, including a beautification program, family skate night and a 5K Run, the Benton Olympics.

The principal holds monthly Principal Coffees, inviting the community into the building to share parental strategies for assisting in the educational support of the students.

Benton plays host to many community activities sponsored by the Park Authority, Boy Scouts, churches, etc.

WHAT MAKES BENTON MIDDLE SCHOOL UNIQUE?

Benton is proud of the accomplishments of its students, who earned the highest SOL scores of any middle school in the county, scoring first in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, and second in Math.

The Benton Middle School climate blends educational teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of all students; whether special needs, regular education, or gifted.
