During our Donuts with Dad Breakfast we talked about several literacy sites that can be used with children. We have listed them below.

On our site we have several areas with student resources. Under the grade levels we house different educational web sites. In the Media Center we have links to research programs, popular authors, and AR lists. If there is anything you would like to see on our web site please feel free to email Ms. Hansen.

2. http://www.guysread.com/

Guys read is a web based literacy site with the goal of helping guys find things to read. It is hosted by popular author Jon Scieszka.

3. http://worldbookonline.com

World Book Online is a research tool that we have access to. To get the password please
email or call the library. The World Book site offers an advanced reference section, a Spanish reference section, and a kid reference section.

4. http://online.culturegrams.com/

Culturegrams is a site that shares different cultures with students. To get the password please
email or call the library.

5. http://www.pwcgov.org/

Choose Government, then choose Library. Finally, choose Welcome to the Prince William Public Library System. The Prince William Library site has resources and links for kids, parents, and teens. It also has Tumble Books which is an online resource that reads picture books to students. You will need your Prince William library card number to access Tumble Books

6.http://www.starfall.com

Starfall is a great site for beginning readers and English Language Learners. This site has interactive activities and games that teach basic reading skills.

Brain Pop is an interactive web site that has games, information, videos, and quizzes about different facts students need to know. Please email or call Ms. Ianni or Ms. Hansen for account information.

The Literacy Center has both a play and learn area for students and an area for parents and teachers. The site also offers activities in other languages (German, French, and Spanish ).

This is another great site for Language arts activities (and other subjects as well). The site also lets you choose by grade level. Each grade level has both links and activities that students can complete.  

10. http://www.eduplace.com/kids/hme/k_5/

Houghton Mifflin offers language arts activities for grades k-5 on this site. You have to click on each section to see the grade levels and the activities present. Most of the activities are grades 2-5.

11.http://www.kidbiz3000.com

Kidbiz is a reading program for the thried grade students. It allows them to email friends and interact with the kidbiz articles that are one there level and complete activities that are about what they read. They can use kidbiz both at school and at home. Your 3rd grade should know his or her account information.
