Springwoods Elementary School has a site-based gifted education program.   Identified children leave their classrooms for gifted services.   We   strive to enrich, extend and accelerate the classroom curriculum.

Critical thinking, creative thinking and reflective thinking are the major components of this program. We offer independent, self-paced experiences as well as small group and whole group experiences.   Students often have choices of what to study and a variety of ways to show what they learn.   They work with their peers to predict, plan, collect data, reach conclusions and share their learning within the context of real-world problems and hands-on learning.

In addition to the resource room experience, staff development sessions on gifted education are presented to classroom teachers and may include such topics as identification, characteristics, and differentiation. Teachers also   have access to materials and resources to help meet the needs of the gifted students within their classroom.
