Music for Life

Chorus gives students the opportunity to express themselves both individually and ar a part of an ensemble. It is more than "just" singing. Chorus students at SMS learn to read music so that they can follow their music in an octavo. They learn the skill of singing rhythms and pitches at sight which helps them read music as an individual. Chorus students have to prepare for concerts by learning their parts, learning choreography and showing poise in a concert setting. By performing in concerts, students have a better sense of appreciation for their own talents and those of others.

They learn to listen to themselves in self-evaluation and use what they heard and discussed to push their music to a higher level of performance. Chorus students learn about music from other countries, cultures and eras, thus learning musical appreciation and musical tolerance for new and different music. And they learn how to arrange and write music, putting their theory skills to action. Best of all, Stonewall Middle Chorus students learn to have fun with any style of music!
