Art Club

The Stonewall Art Club will be starting October and meets twice monthly. The purpose of the club is to provide an extra curricular activity for students who enjoy art. It is a time for students to work on selected art projects under the supervision of the art teachers.

Go SMS! Cheerleaders participate in football and basketball games, and take part in a variety of school activities. As role models cheerleaders are expected to have a positive attitude, maintain good grades, and carry the spirit of Stonewall Middle! Cheerleaders perform at awards ceremonies, pep rallies, and compete against other squads in the county. The team was successful during the 2005-2006 school year, bringing home a first place trophy from the WSHS Vikette annual competition. Tryouts will be held in early September. Please make sure you have a sports physical on file before attending tryouts.

Sabres C.I.T.Y. -- Susie Besecker besecksw@pwcs.edu

The Sabers C.I.T.Y. club combines Computer applications, Internet, Technology, and Yearbook all in a single club and provides students with opportunities to use technology to demonstrate their natural creativity. Students will investigate technology, learn about safe use of the internet as a resource, digital photography, and web page development. Additionally they will create the school yearbook. Sabers C.I.T.Y. will start in early November and meet throughout the year on Tuesdays from 3 - 4 or 3 - 5 beginning in January.

The Stonewall Dance Team is committed to representing Stonewall Middle with high caliber of school spirit, personal integrity, and dance talent. Our intent is to bring a style of Jazz/Hip-Hop dance to Stonewall's sporting events that are professional, technically well executed and entertaining, while also supporting our school and community. The dance team performs at games, pep rallies and other school functions.

Do you love to dance? If so, try out for the Stonewall Middle dance team! Dance team tryouts will be held in the fall. No previous experience is required. All skill requirements will be taught during the tryouts. Please make sure you have a sports physical on file before attending tryouts.

Diversity Club

This club is designed to explore and celebrate diversity that we have here at Stonewall Middle and in our local community. Throughout the year, we will be having monthly meetings to talk about the various issues concerning diversity. We will spend our time having discussions and participating in fun activities. Further, we will be a fun way to get to know other people here at Stonewall Middle and get a chance to discuss very real issues.

 

Foreign Language Club

We will explore other cultures and languages through music, food, and projects. Speakers will pay us a few visits to teach us about specific topics. All are welcome to attend the informational meetings. The dates will be discussed at the first meeting which will be held in October.

 

 

Her-O Club

Her-O is a program to provide girls with the opportunity to meet women as positive role models, to conduct thought provoking group discussions on issues facing today's youth, and to enhance their awareness of available community based programs and resources. The forum allows the girls to gain a great insight into life long skills, friendships, to exchange ideas with professionals, and to dispel myths about career opportunities available to women. This program is sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Homework Club

Students interested in the Homework Club should see their advisory teacher for an application. The Homework Club is open to students that need to have help with homework or that simply need to have a quit environment to work on assignments. The Homework Club will start in September and goes until 4:30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

 

Jazz Band

Jazz Band will be offered as an after-school activity for all interested Intermediate and Advanced Band and Strings students. Students will learn about different jazz styles and will learn how to play blues scales, swing rhythms and improvise. We will be using jazz method books as well as playing original jazz charts and classic jazz pieces. Jazz Band will perform at least three times during the school year.

 

Knowledge Masters Open l Learning Leader Ms. Terri Wiseman l wisematb@pwcs.edu

KMO is an academic quiz for students. It allows international competition. Participating schools receive dated computer disks to use on specific competition days. Thee are questions on 14 subject areas: physical science, earth science, geography, history, government, literature, music and the arts, mathematics, and more. The questions range from simple memory to problems requiring application of knowledge. Points are awarded according to the time taken to answer as a team.

 

Literary Magazine

The Literary Magazine club is open to all students who enjoy creative writing or illustration. Meetings will be held on the first and third Tuesday of every month. Additional meetings will be announced in April and May to create a publication of student work.

 

Math Counts Club

Do you love a challenge? Do you love math and puzzles? Then Math Counts is for you ! The Math Counts club's mission was to prepare participating students for the regional Math COunts competition and to increase student's analytical ability in mathematics. This club is run in partnership with Lockheed Martin, a national sponsor of the Math Counts program. Several members of Lockheed Martin's engineering staff coach the students twice a week for several months. Students are given warm-up problems, as well as several practice problems.
