703.791.8712 Steven L. Walts is in his second year as Superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools - one of the country’s largest and fastest growing school systems. Dr. Walts previously served as Superintendent of Schools in Greece, New York, from 1998 to 2005. He also was an adjunct professor and program coordinator for the Canisius College administrative programs taught in Greece. From 1992 to 1998, he served in Baltimore County, Maryland as the Assistant Superintendent, Northwest Area, and as the Assistant Superintendent/Executive Director, Department of Human Resources. Dr. Walts received his doctorate in Education Policy and Leadership from the University of Maryland in 2002. He is from Great Bend, Kansas and began his teaching career in Wichita. He taught elementary school for 12 years and was also a building principal. Dr. Walts is focused on student learning and has led a number of new initiatives since arriving in Prince William County, including: Math Investigations, Healthy Schools Healthy Communities, Safe Schools Task Force, anti-bullying, Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers, International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, recruiting and retaining the best and brightest employees, SAT preparation, improved technology and communications, and a plan for completing the implementation of full-day kindergarten ahead of schedule. Prince William County is well on its way to achieving its mission of Providing A World-Class Education. |
