NEA GRANT TO LOCH LOMOND FOCUSES ON WRITING PROCESS Loch Lomond Elementary School has received an NEA Innovation Grant in the amount of $2,000 to institute a project entitled “A Work in Progress: Young Authors and the Writing Portfolio.” The funds will be spent on purchasing binders for Writing Portfolio Notebooks for students in grades K - 5. Writing Portfolios will encompass sections that will guide the students through the writing process. The Writing Portfolios will trace the student's progress in the writing process from kindergarten through fifth grade based on a school-wide creative writing rubric utilizing vertical alignment. Volunteers will assist teachers to create published works in a Publishing Center. The school also plans a literary arts magazine, a Young Authors Showcase Night and an author visit. The grant application was submitted by Harriet Eaker, kindergarten teacher,
Claire Klassen, fourth grade teacher, and Esther Slauson, reading resource
teacher.
