GAR-FIELD STUDENT WINS ESSAY CONTEST

 Jeremy A. Jones, a senior at Gar-Field High School, has been named the North/West Regional winner in an essay contest on leadership and outstanding African-Americans, sponsored by Dominion Resources, Inc.  Jeremy, son of Allen and Paulette Jones of Woodbridge, earned a $750 Savings Bond. A cash award of $1,000 was presented to Gar-Field High School in honor of Jeremy’s accomplishment.  The awards were presented at Dominion’s Strong Men and Women: Excellence in Leadership Celebration in Richmond on January 22.

 Jeremy wrote on the topic “A Man of Excellence: Dr. Benjamin Carson.”  Carson became the youngest director of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Medical Center at the age of thirty-three.
