SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW, WHAT BEAUTIFUL CHAIRS TELL ABOUT YOU

Kay Brady, art teacher and department chair at Bull Run Middle School has received a Washington Post Grant for the Arts and a Virginia Commission for the Arts Grant.

Bull Run Middle School was awarded $500.00 from the Washington Post to refurbish wooden chairs.  The project, “Something Old, Something New, What Beautiful Chairs Tell About You,” enables Brady’s eighth grade class to “theme paint” the chairs.  When the chairs are completed, the students will donate them to Annaburg Manor in Manassas.  According to Brady, Annaburg will put the chairs in the main foyer for the comfort of the elderly and their guests.  Her students spend their lunch time caring, feeding and visiting with the elderly.  The Washington Post will honor all grant recipients in the spring.

The $300 Virginia Commission for the Arts Grant will be used to pay for framing students’ works.  The students will donate their pictures to Birmingham Green Nursing Home in Manassas.  Pictures will be displayed in the main foyer and recreation room.

“It is so rewarding to see the students share all their hard work so selflessly with others.  I am always amazed at how loving and compassionate they are towards the elderly.  These projects bring out so much good in all,” said Brady.
