FOREST PARK LITERARY MAGAZINE READERS EARN TECHNOLOGY GRANT

Forest Park High School’s literary magazine, Ursa Major, will add $2,500 to its operating budget thanks to a Best Buy Children’s Foundation te@ch grant.  The Best Buy te@ch program recognizes programs and projects that creatively integrate interactive technology in the curriculum.  The program, launched in October 2003, has already awarded 2.9 million dollars.

Andrea Barbuzza, sponsor of the Ursa Major literary magazine, submitted the grant proposal.  She said the students in her creative writing II class are in the midst of producing the annual magazine.  “Since the magazine is totally self-funded, we will spend all the grant money on technology.  We will purchase a laser printer, scanner, digital camera, multimedia-friendly monitor, computer with lots of memory and accessories, and printer ink cartridges.  The 15 - member staff needs this technology to create a forum for the entire student body’s prose, poetry and art in diverse media,” said Barbuzza.
