GAR-FIELD STUDENT ADVANCES TO NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST Gar-Field High School senior Philip Olson, a National Merit Semifinalist, has advanced to the finalist standing in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Earlier this month, Philip received notification that he is one of 2,600 candidates in the 2004 United States Presidential Scholars Program. Philip is one of 15,000 finalists, or less than one percent of U.S.
high school graduating seniors, who will compete for 8,000 scholarships.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will evaluate each finalist’s
academic record, information about the school’s curriculum and grading
system, two sets of test scores, school recommendations, information about
the student’s activities and leadership roles, and the finalist’s essay.
All winners, chosen on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments, will
be notified in March.
