GAR-FIELD STUDENT QUALIFIES AS NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT FINALIST

Gar-Field High School senior Pamela Madu, daughter of Ralph and Florence Madu of Dumfries, has qualified as a finalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Madu is one of approximately 1,300 finalists who will compete for scholarships. The National Achievement Scholarship awards, offered to outstanding African American students, will award $2,500 scholarships to 700 finalists. Approximately 100 other finalists will receive corporate-sponsored Achievement Scholarship awards. All winners, chosen on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments, will be notified in the upcoming weeks.

Invited to the Governor’s School for Humanities, Madu was an Ambassador for the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership and a Youth Salute Nominee. At Gar-Field High School, she received an Academic Letter and the Principal’s Award for Excellence. A High School Diplomat at Princeton University, Pamela also attended the LEAD Program for Business at Dartmouth University. She is the Student Council Association treasurer, Leo Club president, a cheerleader, Key Club member, and math tutor. A member of the prestigious choral group the Dominants, Pamela is also in the National Honor Society. She was a peer educator for the Northern Virginia AIDS Ministry and currently is the secretary for the Northern Virginia Nigerian Woman’s Club.
