KILBY RECEIVES $84,978 STATE GRANT The Virginia Department of Education has awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant of $84,978 to Kilby Elementary School in Woodbridge. According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Education, Kilby is one of twenty-five school divisions, faith-based organizations, and community groups to receive the three-year grants. The funding is authorized under Title IV, Part B, of the federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The grant provides funds for Kilby Elementary School to begin the Sunshine
Breakfast Club, an early morning remediation, maintenance and enrichment
program in the core subject areas of reading and mathematics and the Xtra
Milers Club, an after school homework, physical activity and math enrichment
club. Grace Lutheran Church and Covenant Presbyterian Church will
provide additional community volunteers to assist in homework tutoring
sessions. During the summer, Kilby will offer the Arrow Summer Camp,
an extended summer school targeting reading and mathematics for at-risk
students.
