SPELLING BEE SPELLS S-U-C-C-E-S-S FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

The Twenty-Sixth Annual Prince William Middle School Spelling Bee, held at Godwin Middle School, spelled success for Grace Meikle and Jessica Tyler.  Meikle, 12, and a sixth grader at Bull Run Middle School, won the spelling bee by correctly spelling “pulka.”  A pulka is a Laplander sled pulled by a single reindeer in Norway.  Jessica Tyler, 12, and a seventh grader at Benton Middle School, was third.

As the champion middle school speller, Meikle will represent the county at the Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee with an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C., courtesy of Potomac News, the official sponsor.  She also received a Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, unabridged, a Samuel Louis Sugarman Award Certificate, an Amazon.com gift certificate, and a DVD of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, Spellbound.

Tyler received a spelling bee trophy and a Border’s gift certificate for a discount on Spellbound.
