FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE N.R. #233, 3/31/04 Date: March 31, 2004
NOKESVILLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ARE NATIONAL FINALISTS A team of Nokesville Elementary School students are regional finalists
for the Toshiba and National Science Teachers Association ExploraVision
contest and were recognized at an awards ceremony at their school’s PTA
meeting on Thursday, March 18, 2004. Teams selected a technology,
researched how it works and why it was invented, and then projected how
that technology may change in the future. Three groups of students
in the Early Bird Club at Nokesville Elementary school submitted projects
and one of the groups was selected as the winner for this region, one of
six regions in the United States and Canada. Third graders Amber
Wilcoxon, Kyle Linsday, and Kelly McKay, and second grader Alex Linsday
each won a digital camera and the team earned a laptop computer for the
school. Now they will compete with the other five regional winners
for prizes of $10,000 each for the winners or $5,000 for each second place
team member.
