SCIENCE STUDENTS EARN PRIZES IN SERVICE AUTHORITY COMPETITION

The Prince William County Service Authority has announced the winners of its Water Science Invitational, the science fair for right-brained students.  High school students were asked to make a short video, or write and illustrate a children's book about drinking water.  Participants came from Gar-Field, Osborn Park, Potomac and Woodbridge high schools.  Winners were awarded $1,000, $750 and $500 for first, second and third-place, respectively.  Their teachers received $500, $350 and $200.

In the children's book category, first place was awarded to Audrey Janusziewicz for "The Thoughtful Thirsty Turtle."  Emily is a tenth grade student at Potomac High School.  Second place went to Crystal Sylvester and Emily Spicer; for "Uni's Great Adventure.”  The two are eleventh and twelfth graders at Woodbridge High School and are instructed by Doug Pinion.  Third place was awarded to Jessica Buzan and Elizabeth Nohelty for “Wally the Water Snake Wanders Home.  Jessica and Elizabeth are tenth grade students at Osbourn Park High School.  Adrienne Manenois their instructor.

In the video category, a project submitted by tenth grade students Emily Arena and Amanda Becker received third-place honors.  Adrienne Maneno is their instructor at Osbourn Park..  First and second-place prizes were not awarded.  All who entered received t-shirts.
Because the judges did not select a first or second-place project in the video category, the Service Authority will send $250 to the science department at each of the four participating schools to encourage their programs and participation in next year's Water Science Invitational.
