EDUCATORS EARN KENNEDY CENTER RECOGNITION Three Prince William County educators are among twenty-five to be recognized for participation the Kennedy Center’s Professional Development Opportunities for Teachers Program at its annual awards ceremony and dinner on May 16. Flavius Hall, a language arts specialist on the school division’s Instructional Support Team; Dorothy Fricke, who teaches world history at Graham Park Middle School; and Clare Phillips, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher at Occoquan Elementary School, will receive certificates of study for their participation in the program. The certificate of study recognizes educators who have continued their professional development in the arts for every thirty hours of study in the Kennedy Center program. Fricke and Phillips will receive level three certificates for completing ninety course hours of study. Hall has earned a level XII certificate, requiring 360 hours of study, the most of anyone participating in the program. According to Hall, “The workshops at the Kennedy Center have helped me realize how much the arts teach self-discipline, reinforce self-esteem, and foster the thinking and creativity skills so valued in our society and the workplace…These workshops have assisted me in looking at my curriculum and have shown the best methods of making the connections for teaching.” The three will be recognized for their accomplishments at the
May 28 meeting of the Prince William County School Board.
