GAR-FIELD HIGH SCHOOL LIBRARY RECEIVES 3M SECURITY PRODUCTS

Gar-Field High School’s library has received security technology equipment from 3M through its Salute to Schools program.  The equipment is a detection system for the entrance/exits of the library, complete with installation, and a supply of Tattle-Tape security strips from 3M for marking printed material.  The equipment and services are valued at approximately $15,000.
The Gar-Field High School Library serves 2800 students, 200 faculty and staff, fifteen academic and vocational programs, an infant and toddler program, and a Head Start program.  The library also provides and maintains a professional staff development library for Gar-Field faculty and staff.

According to Librarian Becky Ferrall, the original security system failed approximately three years ago and was dismantled.  “This is a wonderful addition.  Our new detection system will enable our library to retain its materials, reducing the 20-25 percent annual loss of materials.  The mere presence of a 3M security system will be a deterrent.  For those students and staff who “forget” to check out, the security beeper provides an effective reminder.”

The 3M Salute to Schools program provides detection systems to middle and high school library media centers with limited resources to help reduce the loss of valuable library materials.  One hundred middle and high schools in the United States received a total of $1.5 million worth of security technology.  3M Salute to Schools is sponsored by 2M in partnership with the American Association of School Librarians, a division of the American Library Association.
