COUNTY TEACHERS
EARN NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFICATION
Five Prince William County
Public Schools teachers have earned certification by the National Board
for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). Certification indicates
that the teachers have met a set of standards established by the National
Board that define the knowledge, skills, and accomplishments that comprise
teaching excellence. The educators will be recognized by the School
Board at a reception on Wednesday, December 15 at 5:00 p.m. in the Administration
Building at the school administration complex, 14800 Joplin Road, Manassas.
Teachers who earn their National Board Certification receive a $2,000
stipend from Prince William County Schools for each year of the certificate,
which is good for ten years and can be renewed. The teachers’
names, schools, and their fields of certification are: Christy Tayler,
Signal Hill Elementary School, Middle Childhood/Generalist; Janet Gingery,
Loch Lomond Elementary School, Early Childhood/Generalist; Eileen Atwood,
Vaughan Elementary School, Middle Childhood/Generalist; Tina Grayson,
Osbourn Park High School, Adolescent/Young Adult/English; and Michael
Timothy (Tim) Neall, Minnieville Elementary School, Middle Childhood/Generalist.
The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards is an independent,
non-profit organization which supports a vision of teaching based
on five core propositions, which are:
1) teachers are committed to students and their learning; 2) teachers
know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students;
3) teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning;
4) teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from
experience; and 5) teachers are members of learning communities. For
