PWCPS ADULT ED OFFICE AWARDED GRANT TO EXPAND GED TESTING

The Virginia Department of Education has awarded Prince William County Public Schools a grant in the amount of $8,000 for expanded GED (General Educational Development) Certificate testing as a Race to GED site.

To promote Governor Mark Warner’s initiative to increase the number of GED credentials earned by adults in Virginia, the Adult Education Office of Prince William County Public Schools plans to conduct a free GED practice test day in the spring of 2005. In addition to providing the practice test, all participants who obtain a passing score will be given the opportunity to take the Official GED Test at no charge.

According to the 2000 Census, 25,043 adults in Prince William County 18 years of age and older are without a high school diploma or GED. Economic development depends on a highly skilled workforce. The high school diploma or GED Certificate is a prerequisite to successfully completing post secondary education and training programs which prepare adults for job opportunities.
