COUNTY TEACHERS LEAD REGIONAL MATH COUNCIL


The following Prince William County Public Schools staff members have been elected to the board of Battlefields of Northern Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics for the 2005-2006 school year: President: Debbie Landry, Benton Middle School; Treasurer: Malinda Spencer, Saunders Middle School; Secretary: Penny Parker, Benton Middle School; Program Chair: Karen Mirkovich, Swans Creek Elementary; Conference Registration: Maryann Kraft, Math Office; NCTM Representative: Miller Kehlet, Fred Lynn Middle School; Web Master: Donna Stofko, Math Office; Middle School Representative: Carolyn Cosgrove, Godwin Middle School; Upper Elementary Representative: Viki Wilcox, Marshall Elementary School; Primary Representative: Deena Bulick, Yorkshire Elementary School.

Battlefields of Northern Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics is a regional group of mathematics educators from the kindergarten to the college level. The council includes teachers and administrators from Prince William County, Loudoun County, Fauquier County, Manassas City, and Manassas Park, as well as private schools in these geographical areas. The purpose of the council is to stimulate an interest in mathematics, to support teachers in various ways, to promote the improvement of mathematics education, and to provide leadership in the professional development of teachers as both teachers and leaders in mathematics. The local math council is affiliated with the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics in improving mathematics education for all children.
