SCHOOL DIVISION EARNS INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR
FINANCIAL REPORTING

For the second consecutive year, the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting to Prince William County Public Schools for excellence in the preparation and issuance of the school division’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for fiscal year ending June 30, 2003. The CAFR details the school division’s financial statements and provides information not only for the school year being reported, but also includes information for the previous ten years.

The Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting is the highest form of recognition for school district financial operations offered by ASBO. This nationally recognized program reviews and critiques district account practices as represented in the CAFR and recognizes school districts that adhere to sound principles and reporting procedures. According to John Wallingford, Supervisor of Fiscal Operations, attaining this award has enhanced the school division’s financial reporting credibility not only to the district but to the community as a whole.

Founded in 1910, ASBO International is a professional association that provides programs and services to promote the highest standards of school business management practices, professional growth, and the effective use of educational resources. Last year more than 450 school divisions participated in the award program.
