DOMINION FOUNDATION AWARDS GRANTS FOR MATH
AND SCIENCE PROGRAMS

Nokesville and Yorkshire elementary schools have received grant awards of $2,200 each from the Dominion Foundation. The foundation strives to encourage and improve academic achievement in math and science by supporting innovative programs in schools.

Nokesville Elementary School will use the funds to develop several Math Nights for parents and students and purchase science and math materials. Jackie Brooks, PTA Grants Committee Chair; Elizabeth Silva, fifth grade teacher; and Carol Vaughn, kindergarten teacher, wrote the grant proposal.

Using the funds given by the Dominion Foundation, Yorkshire Elementary School will set up a new math and science lab. Students will have an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning. Robin Anderson, second grade teacher; Deena Bulick, math specialist; Peggy Ferguson, Title 1 math teacher; and Bonnie Penland, principal, wrote the grant proposal.

This year the Dominion Foundation awarded $210,000 in educational partnership grants to 85 schools throughout Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
