BRENTSVILLE DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL EARNS BLUE RIBBON STATUS
The U. S. Department of Education has recognized Brentsville
District High School in Nokesville as a 2004 No Child Left Behind Blue
Ribbon School based on student performance on the Virginia Standards
of Learning tests. Brentsville’s students scored in the top 10
percent on the tests administered last year. The federal Blue Ribbon
Schools Program recognizes the country’s most successful schools.
Brentsville District High School, which was fully accredited in 2003-04
under the state’s accountability system, met the federal definition
for Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the No Child Left Behind Act
of 2001 (NCLB).
“This honor is a credit to our students,” said Principal
Michael Mulgrew. “The students and staff have done a tremendous
job in meeting the new academic requirements. Our students deserve a
lot of credit and I am pleased their hard work was recognized. Our entire
school community should be extremely proud of our young people,”
he said.
Brentsville District High School will be honored by U.S. Secretary of
Education Rod Paige during an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., in
November. For the U.S. Department of Education news release on the Blue
Ribbon program, see http://www.ed.gov/news/pressreleases/2004/09/09172004.html.
