School
administration and staff were presented with a commemorative flag, a
plaque, and a check to be used at the school's discretion. Schools receive
$1,000 for each year the School of Excellence designation is obtained.
Schools that attain this designation must demonstrate
high levels of performance on the SOL tests for two different groups
of students, those beginning that school year on grade level and those
beginning the school year below grade level.
To obtain the highest rating, each fully accredited school must ensure
that 97 percent of students beginning the year on or above grade level
pass the SOL tests. They must also ensure that 55 percent of students
beginning the year below grade level pass the SOL tests.
