2001-2002 School of Excellence

At a celebration for all school employees Springwoods Elementary School received the School of Excellence Award for the second year.

Mrs. Lucy Beauchamp, and Associate Superintendent Mr. Kris Pedersen presented awards to Ms. Amy White, Principal, and to all school employees.

Ms. White and Ms. Hermeling (former Assistant Principal) accepted a School of Excellence commemorative flag on behalf of Springwoods Elementary at a school board awards ceremony.

Some of the reasons Springwoods Elementary was selected as a School of Excellence are:

• At Springwoods Elementary, administrators, staff, and parent representatives collected and examined data from the division, the school, and the community and designed a plan to reflect the strengths and challenges of the school.

• Focusing on the strengths and needs of the individual child, tutorials and remediation programs are offered by a team of teachers, staff, and volunteers, in areas such as SOL Math, English, and Social Studies, as well as reading and enrichment programs.

• Parent-school partnerships are developed and include parent coffees, information nights, SOL family nights, and training of parent volunteers.
