  • SOAR (Successfully Obtaining Academic Results) Curriculum - In order to facilitate the continued learning path of ESOL students transitioning to GED programs and to insure their success with that goal, PWCS felt it necessary to plan and write a curriculum that would support the transition between the language learner and the GED content learner. The SOAR Curriculum is currently under development by the PWCS Adult Education ESOL program and will be available Summer 2008.

 

  • The"Learning English" Orientation video and Student Orientation Guide listed in the ESOL Student Orientation Information section of this website has an accompanying Teacher's Notes to provide students with a practical tool to that helps them manage their English classes and gives them ideas on how to improve their English.

 

 

The following links or materials are web sites and resources that are used by ESOL teachers in the PWCS Adult Education program.

CURRICULUM

  • REEP Curriculum - Comprehensive lifeskills-based adult ESOL curriculum created by the Arlington Education and Employment Program. The REEP curriculum is widely used by the PWCS ESOL Adult Education program.

 

  • SAIL Curriculum - This six-week curriculum covers the academic and technical skills needed for GED preparation and sustainable employment. The curriculum integrates and reinforces job readiness, office technology, and academic skills. Emphasis is placed on building self-confidence and interpersonal skills through self-assessment, goal-setting, simulations, and team-building activities. The curriculum is currently being utilized in partnership with the Prince William County Department of Social Services.

 

  • Money Talks - Managing money and understanding the U.S. financial system are great challenges for newcomers to the U.S. Money Talks is a curriculum project of the Literacy Institute and the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in partnership with Northern Shenandoah Valley Adult Education and Prince William County Public Schools Adult Education.
