Second Grade First Americans  ~  SOL 2.2 and 2.4

American Indian (First American) tribes:

• lived in Virginia and in other regions of America

• met their basic needs in different ways

• made contributions to present-day life

• adapted to their environment in different ways

Students need to be able to compare the lives and contributions of the following tribes:

• Powhatan of the Eastern Woodlands

• Sioux of the Plains

• Pueblo of the Southwest

Students also need to develop map skills by:

• locating the regions of the Powhatan, Sioux and Pueblo on United States maps

• comparing the climate, land and plant life of these regions

• describing how people in these regions adapt to their environment
