Computer Rules and Parts

We viewed a PowerPoint.  Paul and Peedy were characters in the PowerPoint who helped us to discuss:

* Fire Drill  procedures
* Computer Lab Rules 
* Created a Circle Map about computer parts
* Parts of a computer 
        - which part looks like a television 
        - which part is the "brain" of a  computer 
        - which part do you use to help you type 
        - which part helps you move things around the screen 
        - what are input and output devices 

 

Jamestown Exhibit WebQuest

The students worked on a WebQuest to learn more about the Jamestown colony. 

The students worked in teams of 4 and choose information that was important to their assigned specialty. 

The students designed a PowerPoint presentation to share their exhibit with their fellow classmates.

 

Multiplication Practice

In every day life we often have to solve Multiplication Problems. 

Students practiced multiplication facts as they learned about our solar system using MultiFlyer 

Students used  Problem Solving  with multiplication.

Math 4.7 The student will find the product of two whole numbers when one factor has two digits or less and the other factor has three digits or less, using estimation and paper and pencil. For larger products (a two-digit numeral times a three-digit numeral), estimation and calculators will be used.

It is important to be able to find the main idea in a paragraph.

Famous Virginians of the Revolutionary War Period

Students worked on a WebQuest  and created tombstones with epitaphs for 6 famous Virginians.

Weather Internet Scavenger Hunt

Students worked on a Weather Scavenger Hunt to help them review about weather.

     a) weather measurements and meteorological tools (air pressure –
      
barometer, wind speed – anemometer, rainfall – rain gauge, and
       temperature – thermometer); and  
     b)      weather phenomena (fronts, clouds, and storms).

Virginia and the Civil War

Students searched for information about the Civil War.  We used the information to create "flipper books" using PowerPoint.

a)      identifying the events and differences between northern and southern states that divided Virginians and led to secession, war, and the creation of West Virginia ;

VS.8       The student will demonstrate knowledge of the reconstruction of Virginia following the Civil War by
a)      identifying the effects of Reconstruction on life in Virginia ;
b)      identifying the effects of segregation and “Jim Crow” on life in Virginia ;
c)      describing the importance of railroads, new industries, and the growth of cities to Virginia ’s economic development.

 

Using Reference Materials

Students checked out our online encyclopedia resources.   The students then went to the Bennett Learning Links page to review research resources.
