Principal’s Message

November/December 2008

November was a month full of important events. We elected a new President, conducted conferences, and completed the first report cards of the school year. We look forward to honoring our Veterans on their holiday, November 11, and treasure the time off with family/friends for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Please remember that we will be releasing early, at 12:25, on November 26.

Our School Advisory Council meets the first Wednesday of each month at 4:00 to work on our School Improvement Plan and Budget. The first portion of each meeting is open to our community. Anyone who’d like to bring issues to the Council may do so by calling the school and speaking with me. I will then let the Chairperson know you would like to speak during Open Chair.

December events will include our National Geographic Bee hosted by our SIGNET staff for interested 4th and 5th graders. This is quite an interesting activity for students who have some knowledge of the world around them. Make sure you are looking for the permission form which should come home near the end of November. Also our PTO will be holding our annual Winter Breakfast on Saturday, December 13, from 8:30-11:30. Mrs.Yeh’s School Chorus will be performing so I hope you will be able to stop by for a while and enjoy! We conclude school at the end of a full school day on December 19 as students and staff will be on holiday December 22-January 2, returning to school on January 5.

I’m told the Farmer’s Almanac predicts lots of snow this Winter so be sure to have an alternate plan ready in the event school is closed or opening late/closing early. While the kids revel in snowdays and it’s truly a wonderful childhood memory for many of us, adults do face great inconveniences when the white stuff flutters down. A good plan can alleviate a lot of frustration so invest some thinking on this issue now in order to be ready in the event of a “white surprise”!
