Bennett Elementary School students read nearly 10,000 books to get their teachers the opportunity to race fun-loving Mrs. Fogarty on her matching tricycles!
As part of a school wide effort to encourage and celebrate reading of all kinds, each class participated in this worthwhile competition initiated for Dr. Seuss's Birthday in March and culminating in the exciting "photo finish" event May 2.Each class was responsible for tallying the numbers of books students read to compete for the opportunity to have their teacher race.
Librarian, Valerie Klaasse, kept track of each class' progress with a special USA Map posted in the Library. The whole idea emanated from Reading Specialist, Harriett Smith, and the Language Arts Committee that she leads. What a fun way to get students reading and provide a non-sugar incentive as "treat" thereby encouraging wellness too! They really know how to make learning fun at Bennett!
