Yorkshire Elementary School created its “Bulldog Book Buddies” program to foster the love of reading with their students. School staff hosted a spring event that encouraged their students to read, and the families who attended participated in sight word games, enjoyed face painting, eating popsicles, and took free books home to enjoy!

Staff, students, and parents have responded enthusiastically to the program. One first grader exclaimed, “I love to read! I’m going to go home and read this to my sister! Thank you for the book!”

Discussing the event, Ms. Kathryn Keskel, first-grade teacher and the Bulldog Book Buddies coordinator, stated, “It is so heartwarming to see students so excited about receiving books to take home and call their own. To see them eagerly wait in line for a book, read with a teacher, and be excited about literacy is the ultimate reward!”
