Students Greet School Namesake

It’s not every day that students get to meet the person whose name is on their school.

When Dale City-area 6th, 7th and 8th graders head back to the classroom in August, they will be attending the newly renamed George M. Hampton Middle School. Before leaving school for the summer, many had the chance to meet Dr. Hampton face to face.

Soon-to-be “Hampton Huskies” filled the school gymnasium to give the 88-year old community leader, philanthropist, and retired army lieutenant colonel a rousing welcome.

Dr. Hampton thanked the Prince William County School Board for honoring him with the naming, and gave students the advice that helped to shape his life. “Don’t let the where you came from determine where you’re going, what you do, or what you can achieve,” he said.

School Board Member Diane Raulston joined Dr. Hampton to shake hands with Hampton Middle School students and staff members. The will have a bigger crowd when the school is officially re-dedicated in honor of Hampton on August 25.
