Kindergarten Orientation
Mrs.
Ledbetter and Mrs. Metz
2007
– 2008
Welcome
to kindergarten! Today we will try to give you an idea of how things work at
school.
We will cover academic information on Back to
School Night.
Four things your child will do when they
first come in the room in the morning.
·
Place their green
folder in the red basket. All notes, checks and money should be placed in
the folder. Parents, please place all checks and money in an envelope or zip
lock bag so your child’s account can be credited in the cafeteria. Be sure to
write your child’s name and the amount on the envelope or baggie before placing
it in the green folder.
·
Hang up their book
bag. During coat season their coats will go in the book bags.
·
Go to the bathroom. We
remind them to “flush and wash”.
·
Indicate their lunch
choice for the day.
Important information:
- Bus
number - Please look on the lists outside in the hall and find your
bus stop and your child’s bus number.
- Allergies
-If your child has any allergies please let us know by writing it on the
list on the easel.
- Name
- If your child goes by another name let us know by writing it on the
list on the easel.
- Picture
release – We take pictures of the children during the year and create
a book for you to keep. By signing this form you are allowing us to take
their pictures.
- School
folders- Please complete the enclosed forms, front and back and
return them to school on the first day. They are important.
- Green
Communication folders – Please place all notes and money in this folder. We do not look in back
packs and it is best if everything follows a routine for us to best take
care of everyone.
- Labels
– Please write your child’s name on all clothing, book bags, lunch
boxes, notes, money, etc.
- Lunch
– We will be eating lunch in the cafeteria. If your child does not
want to eat a school lunch feel free to send one in. If you wish to buy
occasionally it would be best to send in money for them to have on their
card instead of sending in money on the days they buy. Please refer to
the menu that will come home monthly as to the choices for the day.
- Snack
– Due to our early lunch we will be having a snack every day. I would
like to place everyone’s name on a calendar and let them bring in 22
snacks on their assigned day. Healthy snacks would be best, some
suggestions are, raisins, pretzels, granola bars, graham crackers, etc.
No drinks will be needed as we will use the water fountain outside the
room. If you would like to send in cups with the snack so they can get a
cup of water that might be a good idea also. If you choose not to
participate please let me know so I can leave your name off the list.
- Recess
– We will be going outside at least once a day, sometimes twice. Please
think of comfort and function when you dress your child. Kindergarten is
a very active place and we tend to get dirty and play hard. The county
dress code will give you some guidelines.
- School
bus – All bus passes are given out from the office. We must have a
note from you any time your child will be going home in a different
manner. We send in the notes with the attendance every morning. If we do
not have a note from you we must send them home in their regular manner. If
all notes are placed in the green folders there will be less confusion.
- Bathroom
– Your child may go to the bathroom at any time. However, there are
times I will ask if they can wait so as not to interrupt a lesson. If
they cannot wait then they may go on. They do need to ask.
- Birthdays
– We will try to always place you on the snack calendar on or near
the “special day”. You may send in whatever you like for this special
day.
- Volunteers
– Parents are always welcome
and much needed in the classroom. Your input is a valuable asset to your
child’s education. We do ask that you wait until October to volunteer in
order to give your child time to adjust without you.
- Classroom
needs – As the year progresses there are a few things we will need.
If you would like to send in these items it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank
you for coming to open house today. Mrs. Metz and I are very excited about this
year and are looking forward to getting to know you. It is very important that
parents and teachers communicate. The more we talk the more successful your
child will be in school. You are welcome to come volunteer/observe anytime (we
have lots of projects that need your help). Please remember to check into the
office before coming to the room. If you have any questions please do not
hesitate to contact us. We will try our best to answer you in 24 hours.
