Library Schedule
*The library is part of the Encore Rotation opposite Computer Lab.
Book Check Out Policy
*Kindergarten- 1 book (beginning in mid-October)
*First Grade- 1 book
*Second-Fifth grades- 2 books
*The students must return a book to get a book. If the student does not return the book or loses/damages the book(s), they cannot check out until the books are returned or paid for.
*Overdue notices are given to the student every eight days to remind them of what books they have overdue.
*At the end of each 9-week grading period phone calls will be made to the parents of the students with consistently overdue books.
Library Instruction
Instruction in the library includes research skills, book care, library etiquette, information management and collaborative research to support the curriculum. Below are some of the topics covered by each grade.
Kindergarten- book care, library procedures and basic research
First grade- book arrangement using alphabetical order, parts of a book and online catalog use
Second Grade- dictionary, encyclopedia, and nonfiction book arrangement
Third- thesaurus, atlas and online reference sources
Fourth- almanacs, bibliographic format and Virginia history research
Fifth- review of thesaurus, almanac, atlases, online reference sources, and bibliographic format
