Beginning in the Fall of 2002, middle schools will provide a remediation program that will be required for:

    -Students who do not pass this year’s 5^th Grade Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test in reading and/or in math

    -Students who are significantly below grade level in reading and/or in math as determined by other test data

Remediation will be provided at the middle school level in place of music, exploratory arts, or physical education class. The length of time in remediation will be determined by the needs of the individual student. In addition, middle school staff will work with parents and students to determine the best schedule for remediation for each student.
