School Visitors Must Check In at Main Office

To help ensure the safety of our students, all visitors to Prince William County schools are expected to report promptly to the school's main office when entering school buildings.

At the office, they will be asked to state the purpose of the visit and will obtain a temporary identfication badge. Visitors may include parents of students, citizens, invited guests, sales persons, representatives of the news media, students not enrolled in school, observers from colleges and universities, volunteers, coaches from other schools and tutors.

While this requirement has been formalized in the school division's Regulation 501-6, Prince William County Public Schools has, for a number of years, followed the practice of asking visitors to sign in at the office. Visitors are asked to sign in on log sheets, which will include information on the reason for the visit, the visitor's desitination, entry and exit times, and to provide and leave and collect their photo identification before leaving the building.

School division employees not regularly assigned to a particular school are also considered visitors and should report to the office and follow sign-in procedures. These employees may be permitted to wear their own photo identification badges after following the sign-in procedure.   All Prince William County Public Schools employees now wear photo identification badges around their necks or clipped to their clothing.

The adoption of Regulations 501_6 is a part of the shcool division's continuing effort to ensure the safely and security of students and staff.
