Candidate Confirmation and Information

Dear candidate,

Great work turning in your SCA Leader Candidate permission form and posters!  We are excited that you want to be a part of this great group of students and have considered being a leader of the SCA!  Your posters have been approved and are ready to be posted. Please follow these guidelines when you post your posters around the school and prepare for the school wide election of SCA Leaders.

Posters:

1. Discuss with your teacher and decide on a 5-10 mins. time slot today (9/29) or tomorrow (9/30) when you can go put up your posters around the school.  (ex. the first 5 mins. of lunch)

2. Choose highly visible places to post your poster. (Ex. Near water fountains, restrooms, front office area, lunch room, Recess doors, Encore hallways)

3. Use the packaging tape from SCA.  It will start with the teacher in your grade level that is the grade level chair and then be passed to each teacher.

4. Place your posters on a blank section of the wall where they will not cover any other signs, paintings, candidate posters, fire extinguishers, fire alarms, etc.  Choose 3 different places to put your posters so they are visible to different students in the school.

5. Any additional posters (up to 3 total for each candidate) must be approved by an advisor (Ms. Anaid or Mrs. Proch) before you put them up.

6. Remember that posters are the only form of campaigning that is allowed.

Election:

1. Please write a short, 1 minute speech, to read to the Marshall students on your assigned day for the morning show.  Remember to explain how you will show the responsibilities of a Quality SCA Leader, any prior experience in SCA, and any project ideas in the speech.  This speech needs to be approved by Ms. Anaid or Mrs. Proch.  It is due on Friday, October 3, 2008 to either of the advisors and will be returned to you after it is approved on Monday, October 6, 2008.  If any changes need to be made for appropriateness, we will let you know.  If you do not turn in a speech by October 3rd, you cannot run for a leader position in SCA.  If you plan to be absent on the day of the deadline, please turn your speech in early.

2. Once your speech is approved, note the date and time of your speech.  Speeches will be from Monday, October 6, 2008 through Wednesday, October 15, 2008.  See below for your specific speech time.  On that day, please meet Ms. Anaid in the library after you check in with your teacher in the morning.  You need to be in the library by 9:05am on the morning of your speech.  If you cannot give your speech on the morning that is assigned to you, please contact one of the advisors ASAP.  After all candidates have spoken, the school – wide election for SCA Leaders will be on Thursday, October 16, 2008. If you do not win the majority vote in the election and you are not elected, you may still run for SCA Representative from your class.  The class representative speeches and class election will be on Friday, October 17, 2008. Remember to turn in a permission form and speech to your teacher by Friday, October 10, 2008..

3. If you are elected as a leader for SCA, your first SCA Leader’s meeting will be Wednesday October 22, 2008.  Please keep this date and time open.

Thank you for your interest in Student Council Association (SCA) at Marshall Elementary.  We are looking forward to another great year of student leadership.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Proch (procham@pwcs.edu) or Ms. Anaid (shaverad@pwcs.edu) or you can call the school office and leave a message at (703)791–2099
