Pictured left to right: Rita Goss, Associate Superintendent, Amy Schott, Principal, Lillie Jessie, Occocoquan District School Board Rep., Dr. Steven Walts, Superintendent of Schools, Brian Peterson, Administrative Intern, Natasha Linton, guidance counselorRockledge Elementary proudly celebrated its eleventh School of Excellence on January 31. The library was adorned with student-made pictures and essays describing why they believe Rockledge Elementary is a School of Excellence. Staff was joined in celebration by Ms. Lillie Jessie, Occoquan District School Board Representative, Dr. Steven Walts, Superintendent of Schools, Ms. Rita Goss and Ms. Jarcelyn Hart, Associate Superintendents.

Staff enjoyed an entertaining slideshow showcasing the World Class students and staff in action. School Secretary, Stephanie Geck, has a reputation for helping to plan some rather creative and festive Rockledge events over the years. Mrs. Geck came up with this year’s theme; “Rockledge Sparkles With Excellence.” The library was bedazzled with “gems” and even the cake was bejeweled with edible sparkles. The theme was in honor of the outstanding staff that ensures every Rockledge student shines and feels bright as staff continuously celebrates students’ achievements throughout the school year. The Rockledge mission is “We will support every student’s learning, promote community involvement and celebrate achievement.” Its vision is “Confident Learners, Quality Instruction.”

The School of Excellence designation is certainly a result of the staff’s commitment to its mission and vision. The staff was commended for frequently attending professional development and applying learned strategies to their instruction, maintaining high expectations, increasing parent involvement, successfully employing RTI (Response to Intervention), emphasizing student character via many school initiatives and programs, ensuring student safety, and continuing the reputation of a family atmosphere for staff and community. After hearing congratulatory messages from the above-named special guests, the school was presented with a School of Excellence plaque and flag. Brittany’s Restaurant provided a delicious spread for the celebration. All staff members present were photographed with the flag. Congratulations to the Rockledge community for many years of excellence!
