Judges Needed for Regional Science Fairs; Prepare to be Amazed
February 13, 2013

Volunteer to step into today’s classroom of technology and science by being a science fair judge. The experiments go beyond expectations; their titles alone tell you quickly that this is not the science fair you knew when you were in school. We’re talking about the Prince William–Manassas Regional Middle/Senior and Elementary Science Fairs on March 16 and April 13, respectively. Both fairs will be held in the atrium of the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center. Anyone who is interested in being a judge for either science fair is asked to call PWCS Science and Family Life Education at 703.791.7240 or send an email to koutnisr@pwcs.edu. High school students are not eligible to judge at the regional fairs.

The categories in the middle/senior division (grades 7–12) are animal sciences, behavioral and social sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, earth and space sciences, electrical and mechanical engineering, environmental sciences, bioengineering, mathematics, medicine and health, microbiology, physics and astronomy, and plant sciences. Team projects are also eligible for competition. Students who win first and second place in their school science fairs are eligible to compete in the regional fair.

The categories in the junior division (grades 5–6) are animal sciences, chemistry, computer science, engineering and mathematics, earth and space sciences, environmental sciences, medicine and health, physics, and plant sciences. Students who win first place in their school fair are eligible to compete.

Judging in the senior division will take place from 9:30–1 p.m. on Saturday, March 16 with further judging for selected students scheduled for 1–2:30 p.m. Displays will be open to the public for viewing from 8:30–9:30 a.m., followed by an awards assembly in the School Board meeting room at 4 p.m.
