Registration Deadline is March 15 for STEM Career Conference Scheduled for April 6
March 4, 2013

The deadline to register for the 23rd annual “Girls + Math + Science = SUCCESS!” conference on April 6 is March 15. The science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) career conference is geared for students in grades 5-12 but will also feature workshops of interest to adults. Parents, community leaders, and educators are also welcome. The event, which is open to students in Prince William County, Manassas, and Manassas Park schools, will be held at Marstellar Middle School in Bristow from 8 a.m. to noon.

Submit the registration form along with participation fees of $6 for students and $9 for adults to SUCCESS Conference, P.O. Box 2974, Manassas, VA 20108. Participants may also register online. Contact Denyse Carroll, the Regional STEM Education Coordinator, carroldm@pwcs.edu, for more information. Conference details can also be found in local schools.

In addition to STEM, topics of student-centered presentations and workshops include statistics, space science, physical therapy, and college planning. Workshops for adults include college financial planning, gender equity, and STEM support and innovations.

SPARK, the Education Foundation for Prince William County Public Schools, and the Woodbridge Branch of the American Association of University Women, are cosponsors of the conference. Major corporate sponsors who provide funding for the conference's materials include Lockheed Martin, Micron, ProChain Solutions, and NOVEC.

The first Girls + Math = SUCCESS conference was held in March, 1991. Many students who attended in the 1990s have gone on to finish school, start careers, and return as presenters and parents bringing their children.

This conference is dedicated to astronaut Dr. Sally Ride, who before her death in 2012 had established the Sally Ride Science Program and Sally Ride Science Festivals at George Mason University.
