Course Explores Range of Emotional Disabilities to Assist Parents and Caregivers
The Prince William County Public Schools Special Education Parent Resource Center will host “NAMI Basics” (National Alliance on Mental Illness), a free seven-week course on Wednesday evenings, 7-9:30 p.m. beginning April 3 through May 15, at the Edward L. Kelly Leadership Center, Rooms 2002-2004. The workshop is designed for parents/caregivers of children/adolescents with the following mental illness/emotional disabilities:
- Major Depression,
- Bipolar Disorder,
- Oppositional Disorder,
- Conduct Disorder,
- Anxiety Disorder,
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder,
- Childhood Onset Schizophrenia,
- Substance Abuse Disorders, and
- Co-Morbid Disorders.
It is not necessary that the child have an official diagnosis. Pre-registration is required and parents/caregivers must pre-register to attend all seven classes. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration deadline is Monday, April 1, 2013.
